How Garmin organises Settings
Twelve top-level entries, and almost every one names an activity rather than a component. Connectivity holds Phone, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Airplane Mode, Garmin Connect, Garmin Pay, LiveTrack and Phone Notifications, which is the whole outside world in one list. Activity Tracking, Sleep and Health and Safety and Tracking split the body-measurement work three ways, with Move Alert, Auto Goal and Steps goal in the first, Sleep, Pulse Ox, Body Battery, Heart Rate and Respiration in the second, and Incident Detection, Emergency Contacts and Assistance in the third. Sounds and Vibe, Display, Watch Face, Sensors and Accessories, Activity Profiles, User Profile, System and About close the list.
Only three levels deep, which sounds friendly until you remember you are scrolling with a button. The real difficulty is knowing which of three plausible categories owns a setting: heart rate lives under Sleep and Health, while the alert that nags you to stand belongs to Activity Tracking, and LiveTrack shows up under both Connectivity and Safety and Tracking. Display keeps a small vocabulary of its own, with Auto, Manual, Always On, Timeout, Gesture and Color Mode describing when the screen wakes and how it looks. Sounds and Vibe is blunter still, offering little more than Off, Low, Medium and High.
Three settings worth finding
Settings > Safety and Tracking > Incident DetectionWatches for the motion signature of a crash during an activity and reaches your contacts if you do not cancel. Worth configuring while sitting down rather than discovering it exists after the fact, because it depends on a contact list being filled in first.
Settings > Sleep and Health > Body BatteryAn estimate of how much capacity you have left, built from heart rate variability and activity. Knowing where it is switched on matters, because the number only makes sense once the watch has worn through several full days and nights.
Settings > Connectivity > Garmin PayThe wallet branch, sitting alongside the radios rather than under a security heading. Finding it early is useful because setup involves a card and a passcode, and nobody wants to do that at a checkout.

How this menu got here
Garmin's watch menus grew outward as the hardware gained sensors. Early models needed little more than activity and display options; optical heart rate, pulse oximetry, sleep staging and stress estimates each brought a new row, and the health entries eventually split into separate categories because one list could no longer hold them. Safety features arrived alongside cellular-connected phones, adding incident detection and contact lists. Payment and connected-service rows followed. The two firmware generations offered, System 20 and System 19, are successive releases rather than a redesign. The layout is reconstructed from the shipping interface.

Runners and hikers who bought a watch for one feature and never learned the other eleven categories exist. Shop staff demonstrating a model they do not have in stock. What is real and what is sample data

The state cannot be. A device name, an address, a build number, a network name, a storage figure, whether a particular switch is on or off — those belong to a physical watch, not to a menu tree. It follows a Fenix-style menu tree, and models differ by which sensors they carry, so a watch without a given sensor will not show its row. Treat the structure as a close guide rather than a guarantee. Everything that belongs to a physical watch, such as paired phone names, is a marked sample value.
Why does LiveTrack appear in two places?
Because it is both a connection feature and a safety feature, and the real menu lists it under both headings. That kind of double placement is common on watches, where one function serves two purposes and the designers would rather repeat a row than make you guess which category owns it.
Is there a way to practise a path before touching the watch?
That is the main reason to use it. The step recorder captures the sequence you took, so you can replay it or pass it to someone else. Rehearsing on a full-size screen is far quicker than learning a five-button interface by trial and error on your wrist.
