Fire TV Settings: eight tiles, from the Android years to Vega OS
Amazon's Fire TV puts Settings in a row of tiles across the top of the screen rather than a list, and the row has kept the same eight entries through the move from the Android-based Fire OS to the Linux-based Vega OS. How Fire TV organises its Settings
Network shows the Wi-Fi status and signal and lets you forget or re-join a network. Display and Sounds holds the resolution, from Auto and 4K down to 720p, Match Original Frame Rate, the audio format choice between Dolby and stereo, and the screen saver with its timing and photo source. Applications manages installed apps, their storage and cache, and the app-usage data switch. Controllers and Bluetooth pairs remotes, game controllers and other Bluetooth devices.
Alexa collects the voice settings: privacy, voice history, skills, hands-free and the wake word. Preferences is the everything-else tile: Parental Controls and the PIN, privacy, data monitoring, notifications, location and time zone, and on Vega OS the Adaptive Display size and VoiceView screen reader. Account and Profile links the Amazon account and Prime Video. My Fire TV closes the row with About, storage, Developer Options, Sleep, Restart and the factory reset.
What changes between versions
Three releases are here. Fire OS 7 and 8 are the Android-based systems of the 2020 to 2024 sticks and cubes. Vega OS is Amazon's Linux-based replacement on the newest devices; the tiles are the same, but About reports Vega OS instead of an Android build and Preferences gains Adaptive Display, which enlarges text and menus without stretching artwork. The simulator models that one Vega-only row.
Three settings worth knowing the path to
- Settings > Display and Sounds > Match Original Frame Rate
Lets a film play at 24 frames per second instead of being converted to 60. It is off by default on every Fire TV and it is the setting that removes judder from streaming apps.
- Settings > Preferences > Adaptive Display
Default, Large or Larger, new with Vega OS: bigger text and menus across the interface without distorting posters. Fire OS 8 and 7 in the simulator have no such row.

Where ADB debugging and apps from unknown sources are enabled, the first step of every sideloading guide. On recent releases the row is hidden until About is tapped repeatedly.

What is Vega OS on Fire TV?
Amazon's Linux-based operating system that replaces the Android-based Fire OS on new Fire TV devices. The settings row looks the same; the About page under My Fire TV shows Vega OS instead of an Android version.
Where are parental controls on Fire TV?
Settings > Preferences > Parental Controls, with Change PIN and PIN Protect Purchases beside it. The tile also holds the privacy and notification settings.
Is this the real Fire TV?
It is a simulation of the settings row with the tiles and wording of Fire OS 7, Fire OS 8 and Vega OS. The device, serial number and network shown are sample values and no apps run.
