Roku Settings: eight plain menus, and the System page that holds the rest
Roku keeps its settings deliberately plain: a text list of eight menus on a purple background, no icons, each opening a further list. This page walks that list as it stands in Roku OS 16, explains what the four releases here change, and links every menu to a screen you can open.

How Roku OS organises its Settings
Network shows the connection details and signal and lets you check or change the connection. Display type sets the output, with auto-detect, 4K HDR and 1080p, plus HDR and refresh-rate options. Audio chooses stereo or Dolby, passthrough, volume modes and the volume-levelling that quietens adverts. Theme picks the look and the screensaver, including the Roku Digital Clock and photo streams, with the wait time before it starts.
TV picture settings, on Roku TVs, holds the picture modes, Normal, Vivid, Movie and Sports, and the advanced brightness and colour controls. Remotes and devices shows the Voice Remote with its battery, updates its software, pairs new devices and sets up TV control. System is the long one: Software update, Time, Power with Fast start, Accessibility with the screen reader, audio guide and captions, Advanced system settings and Factory reset. Account closes the list with the Roku account, payment method and subscriptions.
What changes between versions
Four releases are here, Roku OS 13 through 16, one per year from 2024 to 2026. Roku ships one major version a year with point updates in between, and the eight menus have stayed the same across all four; the 2026 release redesigned the home screen with a left-side menu, which sits outside Settings. The Software update page under System reports the version you chose.
Three settings worth knowing the path to
- Settings > Audio > Volume modes
Leveling keeps adverts and channel changes at one volume, Night mode compresses further. It is the row people find after years of reaching for the remote during ad breaks.
- Settings > System > Power
Fast start TV keeps the set half-awake for instant power-on and voice commands, at the cost of standby power. Standard is the quiet, cooler option.
- Settings > Theme > Screensaver
Roku Digital Clock, Random Roku, Photo Streams or Off, with the wait time beneath. If the TV keeps showing a floating clock, this is where it is set.
Questions people ask about Roku OS settings
Where is the resolution setting on Roku?
Settings > Display type. Auto detect is the default; 4K HDR TV, 4K TV and 1080p HDTV can be forced, with HDR and Refresh rate options beneath.
Where are accessibility settings on Roku?
Under System > Accessibility, with Screen reader, Audio guide, Captions mode and High contrast. Roku does not give accessibility a top-level menu.
Is this the real Roku menu?
