KaiOS Settings: ten entries driven by a keypad
KaiOS is the system on the Nokia 8110 and JioPhone class of feature phones: a smartphone-style Settings app steered with a directional pad and two soft keys rather than a touchscreen. How KaiOS organises its Settings
Airplane Mode is a single switch at the top. Mobile network & Data holds data and roaming, the carrier selection, APN settings and the network type, from 4G down to 2G only. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth follow with the usual network list and pairing. Display has the wallpaper, the screen timeout from fifteen seconds to five minutes, and the font size, which matters on a two-and-a-half-inch screen.
Sound sets the profile, ringtone and alerts. Storage shows the internal memory and the microSD card and where media is kept. Privacy & Security covers the phone lock, lock screen, SIM security, app permissions and location. Device is the catch-all: battery with Battery saver and usage, date and time, language, the keyboard, and the option to send usage data. Device Information closes the list with the model, OS version, phone number, IMEI, software update and legal notices.
What changes between versions
Two releases are here. KaiOS 2.5 is the widely shipped version on the Nokia 8110 4G, the JioPhone and dozens of carrier phones. KaiOS 3.0 moved to a newer Gecko engine and a refreshed look, keeping the same ten entries, so the difference on this page is inside the entries and on Device Information, which reports the OS version you chose.
Three settings worth knowing the path to
- Settings > Mobile network & Data > Network Type
4G/3G/2G, 3G/2G or 2G only. Locking to 2G is the classic battery trick on a phone that lives for a week, and it is three rows into the first entry.

Battery saver and the usage breakdown live under Device rather than in a Battery entry. It is the second row of the entry, under the battery level.

Per-app permissions on a feature phone, which surprises people. It sits with the phone lock and SIM security in one short entry.

How do you navigate KaiOS Settings without a touchscreen?
With the directional pad to move, the centre key to select and the two soft keys for the actions shown at the bottom of the screen. The simulator's list and pages are the same ones the keypad walks.
Where is the battery setting on KaiOS?
Under Device, which holds the battery level, Battery saver and usage. There is no separate Battery entry on the list.
Is this the real KaiOS?
It is a simulation of the Settings app with the entries and wording of KaiOS 2.5 and 3.0. The carrier, model and IMEI shown are sample values and no apps run.
